:

Sir,

Korleon Peak Barrack Sites.

With reference to your letter No.1 in 7184/05 of

the 8th instant:-

I have the honour to point out that the correspondence quoted by you, ending with my letter No. D/2324/9 of 26th July, has no bearing upon the question of barrack sites. It should be clearly understood that that correspondence deals only with the Military reserve land at Kowloon Peak.

2.

In the event of barrack sites being recognised as War Department property, they could only be relinquished to the Colonial Government in consideration of a credit in the Colonial Military Lands account, equivalent to the present value of the land which is probably higher than at the time it was assessed by Colonel Lewis.

3. I propose to refer this question to the War Office with the recommendation that, should these sites not have been taken over, the Military Lands Account may be amended by the elimination of the debit on this account and that should these sites be recognised as War Department property they should be relinquished to the Colonial Government at the commercial value of the land.
